My children are gone now
My children arer grown
Just where did the time go?
Guess I should have known
This day was long coming
Though I couldn't see
How a life without children
Would now affect me
I'll miss all the trials
All the smiles and the tears
I'll miss all the laughter
I've known through the years
I'm left now with phone calls
With texts and email
They're out on their own now
Their ship has set sail
They'll go off to college
To work on their own
To start a new life
And have kids of their own
And I hope that through all
Of the changes in life
That they won't forget
About me and my wife
We'll always be here now
No matter what falls
To help when were needed
To take midnight calls
To share all the wisdom
We've gained throughout life
To be a strong shoulder
Through good times and strife
No matter what challenges
Come in their lives
Even though they'll have
Their husbands and wives
I hope they'll remember
Right up to the end
We're not only their parents
We're also their friends
