The Memories Still Haunt Me

Diane, you know I love you
Though I often wonder why
There are times I think about you
When the tears swell in my eyes

I thought our love would last forever
I was only then sixteen
When your heart was yet unbroken
And our heads were full of dreams

But then I went away
I left you lonely and confused
And soon you said goodbye
You said you felt you had been used

And so I cried a river
To find myself across the sea
And the memories still haunt me
In the land of Germany

And so, one lonely night
In a town I'd never known
I began to write
And this is what was shown:

"I used to think that love was grand
Until you broke my heart
By saying you were leaving me
My world fell apart

And so I sit here lonely
In this strange new world I've found
Looking inside from the outside
I find I'm out of bounds

Love is only what you make it
So make it good and make it last
Don't fool around and don't play games
and don't try to go to fast"

And even though these words are said too late
But not in vain
Recall them in the future
For they just might ease some pain

And the next time that you find
That you are standing out of bounds
Looking inside from the outside
While your tears are falling down

Just remember that I love you
And no matter what is done
You know I'll always stand beside you
When your need for friendship comes
