The year was 1983, the month around October
A young boy left his father's home to start his life all over
He moved in with his mom, who hadn't seen him in five years
He left all that he loved behind, his head was filled with fears
The town he moved to was quite bad, the school was filled with thugs
And now the people that he knew had started him on drugs

The month was March of '84, the worst part of his life
The school had just arrested him for carrying a knife
They told the cops to come right down and take him to the station
Luckily for him he got off with six months probation
They kicked him out of Olive Vista, to a school called Frost
A stranger in a strange land of confusion...he was lost

The day was Wednesday, the 2nd of May, in 1984
At the time, the day had started out like such a bore
But during English, in period 4, at high school orientation
He met the girl of his dreams, and stared in fascination
They went to lunch to try to get to know each other better
And two days later, she gave him her number in a letter

Ten days later, walking through the park on Saturday
He asked her to go out with him, it was the 12th of May
Four days before, she broke up with her boyfriend for the best
Now, suprisingly to both, she simply answered, "yes"
They made each other happier than honey does a bee
They would be together for awhile, as all could see

After a month, around June 5th, he wrote to her a letter
Asking, "Will you marry me?" To which she said, "You'd better!"
This made him so happy that his brain had hit cloud nine
He wanted to buy her a ring, but didn't have a dime
They were both in heaven, which lasted for awhile
And, when she was feeling down, he always made her smile

It was now late September, and school had just begun
And someone started rumors that the boy was having fun
Saying he was flirting with every girl in sight
The girl believed the rumors, and they began to fight
Soon paradise was over, and their fairyland was stunned
They didn't even realize, the trouble'd just begun

With no one he could talk to, and no one with which to turn
He fell in love with another...a painful lesson to learn
Jennifer was beautiful, she nearly stole his heart
And Jennifer had loved him since she saw him from the start
When the girl finally heard, she was really hurt
It was then she started liking another guy named Herb

October 18, '84 was the day she said goodbye
There was nothing he could do but sit around and cry
The boy went up to Jennifer, he had tears in his eyes
She knew the words were coming, so they both said goodbye
Now the boy had no one, and the girl...she had Herb
And although Herb wasn't her boyfriend, the grapevine spread the word

The two had got together around November 8th
The boy had asked the girl if she would go out on a date
She said, "yes" and they were back to going out again
Breaking up after a week, and leaving them in pain
She, again, was seeing Herb, and started going out with him
Just to wind up breaking up and going with the boy again

From December 11th to December 20th, the two were going out
But she broke up with the boy again, it turned him insideout
Again she was going out with Herb, now everyone's confused
They ask, "Is she going out with him, or going out with you?"
He had to tell them all the truth, there was no other way
"She and Herb are going out, but we are still engaged."

The Thursday of the 17th, January '85
The boy and Herb had given the girl a very big surprise
They said that she should pick the one of whom she loved the most
That she should make up her mind, instead of having both
She broke up with the both of them, she said she needed time
To pick the one she wanted most...decide it in her mind

Life goes on, or so it seems, and so we try our best
The question in my mind right now is, "What will happen next?..."
